eSIM for several countries: one regional plan or separate country plans?
When a regional eSIM saves money and hassle, when separate country plans are cheaper, and what to check before you buy.
Planning a trip through several countries? You can buy one regional eSIM that works everywhere on the route, or a separate plan for each country. Both work — the right choice depends on your route and how long you stay where.
When one regional eSIM is better
- Short stays in many countries, for example an Interrail trip or a Balkans road trip. One install, no switching at borders.
- Border regions and day trips, where your phone keeps jumping between networks.
- Cruises and ferries that call at several ports.
When separate country plans are cheaper
- A long stay in one country plus a short hop to another. A single-country plan is often half the price per gigabyte of a regional one.
- Destinations outside the usual bundles, like a European trip that ends in Morocco or Georgia.
What to check before buying
- Is every country of your trip in the list? Regional names differ: "Europe 33" and "Europe 42" do not cover the same countries — the UK, Switzerland and Turkey are the usual surprises.
- Validity covers the whole trip, counted from the first connection.
- Networks and internet exit. We show the operators the eSIM connects to and the country your traffic exits through on every plan.
The trip planner does the comparison for you: add the countries and the days in each, and it shows the cheapest regional plan next to the cheapest set of country plans.
